Bus riders Late At Night

Lyrics by Cory Smith, music by Stan Jones (Ghost Riders in the Sky)

One time I flew to SeaTac

on a dark and windy night

I had no way to get back

to my home after the flight

When all at once a bus pulled up

and stopped in front of me

I'd never used mass transit no,

but how bad could it be?

The first thing that I noticed

when I climbed aboard that bus

A smell I couldn't quite define

and don't care to discuss

A bolt of fear went through me

as I cast my eyes about

The bus had started moving,

was too late to get out

Yippie yi ooh

Yippie yi yay

Bus riders late at night

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred,

their shirts all soaked with sweat

I didn’t change that line because

The lyrics really fit

A few were mumbling to themselves

I didn’t ask them why

And somewhere towards the back I saw

A really scary guy

The riders hurried by him

As they tried to find a seat

I tried to follow suit

But then I stepped right on his feet

He stood up tall moved in real close

And looked me in the eye

I won’t forget that bus ride

Until the day I die

Yippie yi ooh

Yippie yi yay

Bus riders late at night

Bus riders late at night

Bus riders late at night
