Church Business

Lyrics by Cory Smith and Paul Walker, music by BTO (Takin' Care of Business)

They get up Sunday morning

from their alarm clock's warning

What a strange and peculiar people

While their friends are still in bed

They sit in meetings instead

In the red brick church with the steeple

We start the meetings on time

though it's kinda sparse at nine

lots of people still on their way

But I never get annoyed

Cause I've already enjoyed

Six or seven early meetings that day

And I been takin' care of business, on Sunday

Takin' care of business, there's no pay

I been takin' care of business, could be worse

Takin' care of business, just hear the next verse

It's as easy as fishin'

You can run the ward mission

Like a walk through a park in the shade

If you think that that's true

Here's a deal just for you

What's your calling? I'm willing to trade

When the Bishop's on the phone

wants to speak to you alone

makes your heart beat just a little faster

I was confident and strong

the bishopric is never wrong

or so I thought until he made me Scoutmaster!

And now I'm takin' care of business, on Sunday

Takin' care of business, there's no pay

He's been takin' care of business, hangin' out

Takin' care of business, and campin' with the scouts

Take good care

Of my business

On Sunday

We don't play

If church started at noon

it would still be too soon

cause I'd rather stay longer in bed

but instead of sleeping late

I get to church at half past eight

and I'm carrying the sacrament bread

When the sermon's running long

or we sing a reverent song

That's when baby sister lets out a yell

After squirming around

I finally get her calmed down

that's when baby brother lets out a smell

Takin' care of business, girls and boys

Takin' care of business, lots of noise

Takin' care of business, its all fine

Takin' care of business, even when they whine
